The vineyard and winery take their name from the ridge they are located on. Lewis and Clark named the crest of land as they journeyed down the Columbia River in 1805. From the river, they thought the ridge looked like an overturned canoe.
Built in 1905, the tasting room was originally the garage and maintenance facility for a streetcar and interurban train system.
May through September the tasting room is open until 5pm and October through April until 4pm.
